Project Description:

The project was to model and texture a level. In respect to modeling the scene, the polygon count for all objects need to be low compared to film polygonal models. We were only required to create the diffuse, specular and bump maps. The level was than to be imported into a game engine of our choice. We where than required to use a game animation system to add a few object animation. 

Adding to the Requirements:


Environment modeling is something that I'm always trying to improve on and its one of my skills I'm most proud of. Prior to this class I had little to no experience in Unity so my main focus was learning the program. I'm not very good at scripting so I wanted to try to improve my knowledge of it to push myself.

Environment Narrative:

The environment is a ship itself, used for transport and board. The world it's set in is a post apocalyptic setting where a group of four individuals fight to keep their ship, their home, in tact. The boat appears to be built from literally scrap since the harsh environment allows little to no proper resources.

The top deck of the ship is where most of the action happens. Facilities such as a harpoon gun, health station, ammunition converter, turret, and crow's nest are found here. Their wiring and generators are on the bottom deck, where the engineer would go to fix them.

Entering a hatch and descending the stairs the player can go to the bottom deck. Along with the generators for the facilities to the top deck, the engine for the ship is on the bottom deck. For the most part the occupants of the ship are facing threat most of their time so the only mattresses on the bottom deck are fold down ones to save space.

Color Palette

For colors I chose earth colors since this takes place in the desert. Also the whole aesthetic is that the ship and the things on it are made by the crew of the ship. Since the environment is a desert the ship is dirty and rusted, its not crisp and clean.

When pointed out the signs were too big I resized them to be more in scale with how it would compare to the character. I also added a bottom flooring design to make the floor not seem like a long sheet of metal. While the hull and top floor of the ship are metal I put welded metal plates on them to give it a feeling that the ship has been through scraps.
